Taste and See: the taste of joy

Albrighton, Pentecost 2016

Today is the Monday of the 7th week in Ordinary (that is, in the Church’s calendar, numbered (ordinal) time). Easter ended yesterday evening, and yet of course we are, and remain, an Easter people.

The psalm for Mass yesterday, Pentecost Sunday, puts a song of praise, hope and joy on our lips: suited for yesterday, equally suited to today.

Send forth your spirit, O Lord, and renew the face of the earth.
or
Alleluia!

Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord God, how great you are,
How many are your works, O Lord!
The earth is full of your riches.

You take back your spirit, they die,
returning to the dust from which they came.
You send forth your spirit, they are created;
and you renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord last for ever!
May the Lord rejoice in his works!
May my thoughts be pleasing to him.
I find my joy in the Lord.

Psalm 103:1,24,29-31,34

Passing through our day, passing through our lives, we often are taken up with the aches and pains, the woes and worries. The invitation though is there to lift up our eyes, beyond the daily cares and see the light of what is lasting and hopeful, and is for us.

  • How will you give praise, and live your thanksgiving today?
