Speak Lord: Of the glory of God

Ascension Sherringham

The responsorial Psalm for Ascension Sunday celebrates with great enthusiasm the ascendancy of God. In our singing of the it we laud his glory and kingship.

God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
or
Alleluia!

All peoples, clap your hands,
cry to God with shouts of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, we must fear,
great king over all the earth.

God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
or
Alleluia!

God goes up with shouts of joy;
the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
Sing praise for God, sing praise,
sing praise to our king, sing praise.

God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
or
Alleluia!

God is king of all the earth,
sing praise with all your skill.
God is king over the nations;
God reigns on his holy throne.

God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
or
Alleluia!

Psalm 46:2-3,6-9

Some rulers dominate, others serve. Some leave others to do all the work, others lead. Remember the sort of ruler that the Lord is.

As we celebrate the Lord’s Ascension we should be mindful that where he goes we are invited to follow. And he himself is the Way that allows us to follow; the Truth we need to learn to hold; and the Life that we are to make, more and more, our own.
