The following prayer was the prayer prayed over the gifts of bread and wine on Sunday, as they were brought to the altar and dedicated to their use for a thanksgiving offering to God the Father.

The thanksgiving of the Mass re-presents in sacrament the Sacrifice of Jesus. That Sacrifice has won, and wins, salvation for us.

We are invited to newly share in that once and for all Sacrifice by sharing in the sacramental food and drink that truly is the Body and Blood of Jesus.

Prayer over the Offerings
May this oblation dedicated to your name
purify us, O Lord,
and day by day bring our conduct
closer to the life of heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.

As we live this day we are invited to live it to the glory of God. The words of one of the forms of the Dismissal of the Mass remind of this:
